Browlift (forehead lift)

BROWLIFT (FOREHEAD LIFT) :

  • ANAESTHETIC - LOCAL OR GENERAL
  • STAY IN HOSPITAL LOCAL 1 DAY / GENERAL 1 DAY AND 1 NIGHT
  • RECOVERY 10 DAYS
A Forehead Lift or Brow lift as it is also known is a procedure that is generally undertaken to correct deep furrows in the forehead as well as drooping eyebrows as a consequence of the aging process. However younger people with a pre-disposition to frowning can also benefit from this type of surgery. This procedure can also be successfully performed in association with other cosmetic surgery such as Face Lifts and / or Eyelid Surgery should the need arise.

There are a variety of methods and techniques that can be employed in this type of surgery. Once your surgeon has made an individualised assessment of the anatomy of your face, the thickness of your hair and the position of your hairline he or she will then inform you of what is believed to be in your best interests.

You will be fully informed by your surgeon as to how the procedure will be conducted and you will be encouraged to air your desires and expectations regarding the outcome of the procedure and to ask as many questions as you like prior to surgery.

Your surgeon will then advise you how you can best assist the process pre-operatively in order to help achieve the very best result.

YOUR MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ANSWERED:

HOW WILL I CHOOSE THE RIGHT SURGEON FOR MY PROCEDURE?

Although all South Africa’s leading cosmetic surgeons are highly trained and experienced in all cosmetic / plastic surgery procedures they naturally have individual, specialist areas of interest and expertise.

Once Surgical Attractions has assessed your particular desires and aspirations concerning the outcome of your browlift procedure we will marry them to the surgeon best suited to your special needs. The surgeon’s CV details will then be sent to you for your perusal and acceptance.

HOW WILL MY SURGEON ASSESS MY PARTICULAR SURGICAL REQUIREMENTS?

When you complete the Medical History section of the General Enquiry Form you will be asked to submit it together with a clear and reasonably close-up digital photograph (in colour) of the area of your body requiring surgery.

Once your recommended surgeon has assessed your particular requirements along with your medical history and digital photo, Surgical Attractions will arrange an obligation free teleconference between the two of you.

At this stage your surgeon will not only be in possession of all the facts relating to your particular case but also be in a position to recommend the exact method to be employed to achieve the results you desire. Your surgeon will also be available at this point to answer any questions you may have as regards your surgery and the outcome.

You will be encouraged at all times prior to your surgery to continue getting to know your surgeon by asking as many questions as you like.

On arrival in South Africa Surgical Attractions will arrange a personal meeting between you and your surgeon. Once again the method of surgery and the desired outcome will be discussed along with any other questions you may have. If at this point you decide not to go ahead with the procedure your decision will be respected.

HOW WILL THE PROCEDURE BE PERFORMED?

Not only do individual surgeons have preferred techniques but there are also a variety of methods to choose from. Not until your particular case has been thoroughly evaluated can a firm decision be put forward to you.

In assessing you a variety of criteria will be borne in mind not least of all your personal desires and aspirations regarding the outcome of the procedure. You will also be encouraged to ask as many questions as you like about the proposed method prior to surgery.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT METHODS USED IN FOREHEAD LIFTS?

One of the most popular methods involves the Endoscopic Technique - whereby small incisions that are not discernable after surgery are made in an area of the scalp well populated with hair. The endescope itself is in fact a tubular device connected to a video camera. This tubular device is inserted into the incisions enabling your surgeon to view the interior of your scalp and thereby accurately determine which muscles need to be removed or tightened and how much skin needs to be trimmed.

Although the endoscopic technique is a great asset to forehead surgery it is not always perfect for everyone. Indeed your surgeon may choose to make an incision across the top of your head, in the middle of your head or in front of your hairline.

In some cases a combination of techniques is employed. But rest assured that only the best method most suited to you will be recommended.

SHOULD I TAKE ANY PRECAUTIONS PRIOR TO SURGERY?

If you are a smoker you will be advised to stop smoking prior to surgery in order to prevent unnecessary complications.

Arnica tablets, vitamin E in large doses, analgesics like Aspirin and even some anti-inflammatory drugs should also not be taken prior to surgery as they can promote bleeding during the procedure.

Your surgeon however will give you personal advice in this regard. In the case of a Forehead Lift many pre-operative precautions can also relate post-operatively.

HOW WILL I FEEL AFTER MY SURGERY?

The swelling and bruising that will occur may result in you experiencing some discomfort or pain following this procedure but this will be quickly countered by the administration of an analgesic medication. Although the bruising may persist for a couple of weeks following surgery the initial discomfort will not. Bruises may be covered-up with make-up during this period but care must be taken to not infect any of your incisions especially if you have an incision along the hairline.

Your stitches will be taken out ten to fourteen days after surgery however you will be able to bath, shower and wash your hair within a couple of days following the procedure.

HOW WILL I LOOK AFTER MY SURGERY?

Although the healing process is not immediate after a Forehead Lift procedure a full recovery does differ from one individual to another. You should however be prepared to wait several weeks to appreciate the full results of your surgery. By which time you should be extremely happy with the removal of your deep furrows, frowns and droopy eyebrows all of which could have collectively conspired to give you an almost angry appearance even when you were happy!

HOW LONG BEFORE I AM BACK TO NORMAL?

As with all surgical procedures you should take it easy after having a Forehead Lift. In fact you should be very protective in general towards your head and face during your early recuperative phase. That means avoiding any sudden movements that could put your surgery in any danger whatsoever. You should also be conscious of not unduly exposing yourself to direct sun post-operatively. Despite all these precautions you should be able to get back to your normal way of life about ten days after surgery.

RISKS

As with everything else in life there are also risks involved in surgical procedures. No matter how good the Surgeon performing the Surgery may be, complications can arise. Therefore before proceeding with any surgery of any kind please discuss all your concerns with your surgeon and ask as many questions as you like so that you are in a position to make an informed decision.
